Managing Your Reading Progress

VerseDB tracks which issues you've read and calculates your completion progress per series. Mark individual issues from any issue page, or use bulk actions to manage entire series at once.

Marking Issues as Read#

Every issue page has a read toggle button in the action bar (the vertical icon strip on the left side of the page). Hover over the book icon to see "Mark as Read" or "Mark as Unread."

  • Click the icon once to mark the issue as read — it highlights to confirm
  • Click again to mark it as unread

Tip

You don't need to own an issue to mark it as read. Reading tracking and collection tracking are completely separate features.

Your Reading Progress Page#

Visit My Library → Reading to see all series where you've read at least one issue. The page shows:

  • Completion donut chart — Your overall reading percentage across all tracked series
  • Total stats — Issues read, total issues in tracked series, number of series
  • Top publishers — A breakdown of your reading by publisher with progress bars
  • Series list — Every series you've started reading, with individual completion percentages

Filtering and Sorting#

Use the controls above the series list to find what you're looking for:

Search
Optional
Filter series by name
Publisher
Optional
Filter to a specific publisher from a dropdown of publishers you've read
Sort
Optional
Sort by Completion (High/Low) or Name (A-Z/Z-A). Default: Completion (High)
Hide completed
Optional

Switch between grid and list view using the view toggle. Grid view shows cover art with progress bars. List view shows a data table with year, type, publisher, and progress columns.

Series Reading Manager#

Click any series on your Reading Progress page to open the Series Reading Manager. This shows every issue in the series with your read status for each one.

The manager displays:

  • Series cover, name, and publisher
  • A progress bar with your completion percentage (e.g., "12 of 45 issues read")
  • All issues in grid or list view, with a read badge on issues you've completed

Sorting Issues#

Sort the issue list by:

  • Issue # (Low/High) — Numeric order (default: Low to High)
  • Release Date (Oldest/Newest) — By publication date

Note

Clicking an issue card navigates to the full issue page where you can toggle its read status, add it to your collection, or view details.

Bulk Read Actions#

Pro subscribers can mark all issues in a series as read or unread at once.

  1. Open the Series Reading Manager for the series you want to update
  2. Click the Bulk Actions dropdown
  3. Select Mark All as Read or Mark All as Unread
  4. Confirm in the dialog that appears

Bulk actions process in the background. A banner appears while processing — refresh the page to see updated results.

Warning

Marking all as unread removes your read history for every issue in that series. This cannot be undone.

Note

Bulk Read Actions require a Pro subscription. Free users see the Bulk Actions button with a PRO badge — clicking it navigates to the subscription page.

Privacy Settings#

Your reading progress is private by default. To make it visible on your public profile:

  1. Go to My Library → Reading
  2. Click the visibility toggle in the top-right corner to switch between public and private

When public, other users can view your reading progress at @yourusername/reading on your profile.

Reading Progress on Other Pages#

Reading status appears in several places beyond the dedicated Reading page:

  • Issue pages — The read toggle in the action bar shows your current status
  • Series pages — Shows a "Reading Series" indicator if you've read any issues
  • Profile pages — If your reading list is public, visitors see your progress under the Reading tab

Tip

Reading progress and your collection are independent. You can read an issue without owning it, and own issues you haven't read yet. Both track separately.
