DESCRIPTION
King in Black tie-in one-shot from Al Ewing and Aaron Kuder set during Knull's invasion of Earth. A completely wordless issue—no dialogue, no captions—following a weakened, child-like Savage Hulk alone on the streets of New York on Christmas Eve. With Bruce Banner missing and the Devil Hulk gone (events from Immortal Hulk #39), only the vulnerable Savage Hulk and cunning Joe Fixit remain to face one of Knull's symbiotes.
The story blends Immortal Hulk's signature body horror with unexpected Christmas warmth. Savage Hulk encounters a dropped present, fights a symbiote, gets triggered by memories of his abusive father Brian Banner, and transforms into Joe Fixit who defeats the creature using loud music and fire. The issue ends with Fixit grabbing toys so the childlike Hulk can have a proper Christmas.
Kuder's art carries the entire narrative without a single word balloon—facial expressions, body language, and panel composition tell the complete story. Reviews praised the rare combination of grotesque horror and genuine heart. While not essential to the main King in Black event, it's a touching character study that expands on the fractured psyche Al Ewing explored throughout his acclaimed Immortal Hulk run.
