Batman: Dark Victory is a fourteen issue maxiseries by writer Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale, published from 1999 to 2000 as a direct sequel to The Long Halloween. A new run of murders grips Gotham, this time the work of a killer called Hangman who targets members of the city's police force. Batman investigates as the old crime families lose ground to a rising generation of costumed criminals.
The story also traces the arrival of a young orphaned acrobat named Dick Grayson into Bruce Wayne's life. Loeb and Sale continue the noir tone of their earlier collaboration while deepening the decline of Gotham's traditional mob.
