Privacy Settings Overview
VerseDB tier lists offer two privacy levels: Public and Private. You can change privacy settings anytime, even after publishing.
Public Tier Lists
What "Public" Means
- ✅ Anyone can view without logging in
- ✅ Appears in search results
- ✅ Shows on browse and trending pages
- ✅ Can be voted on (upvote/downvote)
- ✅ Can receive comments
- ✅ May be featured if popular
- ✅ Earns XP from vote milestones
- ✅ Visible on your profile
Benefits of Public Lists
- Get community feedback and discussion
- Earn XP from vote milestones (up to 900 XP!)
- Help others discover great comics
- Build your reputation as a contributor
- Potential to be featured on trending page
When to Use Public
- Finished, polished tier lists
- Want to share opinions and spark discussion
- Ready for community feedback
- Lists you're proud of
Private Tier Lists
What "Private" Means
- ✅ Only you can see it
- ❌ Hidden from all search and browse pages
- ❌ No voting or comments allowed
- ❌ Won't appear on trending
- ❌ Doesn't earn vote milestone XP
- ✅ Still earns 10 XP for creation
- ❌ Not visible on your public profile
Benefits of Private Lists
- Work in progress without pressure
- Personal rankings for your own reference
- Experimental or incomplete lists
- Controversial opinions you're not ready to share
When to Use Private
- Draft tier lists you're still working on
- Personal reference lists
- Testing tier configurations
- Haven't finished ranking all items
Changing Privacy Settings
During Creation
- Look for "Privacy" section
- Toggle between Public/Private
- Publish with your chosen setting
After Publishing
- Go to your tier list page
- Click "Edit" button
- Change privacy toggle
- Click "Save Changes"
- Changes take effect immediately
Note: You can switch between public and private as many times as you want!
Sharing Your Tier Lists
Direct Link Sharing
Every tier list has a unique URL:
https://versedb.com/tier-lists/[id]
How to share:
- Copy the URL from your browser
- Paste anywhere (Discord, Reddit, Twitter, etc.)
- Anyone with the link can view it
- Link stays the same even if you edit the list
Share Buttons
On your tier list page, use built-in share buttons:
- Twitter/X – Tweet your tier list
- Reddit – Post to relevant subreddits
- Discord – Share in comic servers
- Copy Link – Quick copy to clipboard
Embedding (Pro Feature)
Pro users can embed tier lists on websites:

Visibility on Your Profile
Public Tier Lists
- Show on your public profile
- Count toward your stats
- Visible to anyone viewing your profile
- Sorted by votes, date, or alphabetically
Private Tier Lists
- Hidden from public profile
- Only visible in your dashboard
- Don't count in public stats
- Only you can see them
Voting and Comments
Public Lists
- Anyone can upvote or downvote
- Anyone can leave comments
- You get notifications for new comments
- Vote counts visible to everyone

- No voting allowed
- No comments allowed
- Just for your personal use

How Public Lists Are Found
Search Results:
- Indexed by title and description
- Searchable by content type
- Filterable by creator
Browse Pages:
- Recent tier lists
- Trending tier lists
- Top voted tier lists
- Filter by content type
Trending Algorithm:
- Vote score (upvotes - downvotes)
- Recency (newer = higher)
- Comment activity
- View count
How Private Lists Are Hidden
- Excluded from all search indexes
- Don't appear on browse pages
- Not in trending calculations
- Invisible to other users
Featured Tier Lists
What Is "Featured"?
- Special badge on tier list page
- Highlighted position on homepage
- Extra visibility in browse pages
- Selected by VerseDB staff or algorithm
How to Get Featured
- Create high-quality, interesting tier lists
- Get significant community votes
- Spark good discussions in comments
- Be an active, positive community member
- Unique or creative rankings
Note: You cannot make your own list "featured" – that's controlled by admins.
Tips for Sharing
Best Practices
On Social Media:
- Add context in your post
- Tag relevant communities (#Marvel, #DCComics, etc.)
- Ask for opinions to encourage engagement
- Use eye-catching screenshots
On Discord/Forums:
- Post in relevant channels
- Explain your ranking criteria
- Be open to feedback
- Link back to comments section
With Friends:
- Share via direct message
- Challenge them to make their own
- Compare your rankings
- Have friendly debates
Driving Engagement
Ask Questions:
- "What would you rank differently?"
- "Did I miss any must-reads?"
- "Hot take: X belongs in S-tier. Agree?"
Be Responsive:
- Reply to comments
- Thank people for voting
- Update based on feedback
- Explain controversial choices
