DC's long running Batman anthology, built on a single constraint. Every story is short, self contained, and printed without color.

The format began in 1996 as a six issue miniseries and has come back repeatedly since, in new volumes, backup strips, specials and collected editions. Each round hands the Dark Knight to a rotating slate of writers and artists, many of them working on a DC book for the first time.

Because the entries stand alone, the franchise carries no continuing plot. What holds it together is the black and white page and the range of approaches it invites, from noir and horror to folklore and science fiction.
