Nico Bravo and the Hound of Hades is a genuinely fun read. The story moves at a fast pace but never feels rushed. It's easy to follow even with multiple threads running at once and it never drags. The humor lands too; I found myself laughing out loud a few times, which isn't always easy to pull off in a graphic novel. Cavallaro does a great job balancing the comedy with an actual adventure that has real stakes and a satisfying ending. The art and colors are a big part of what makes this work. The vibrant, psychedelic palette gives the whole book an energy that matches the story perfectly. The mythology mashup of gods and monsters from all different pantheons colliding in one place is creative and entertaining, and the characters are all likable enough that you want to follow them further. I'll definitely be picking up book two and jumping into the Eowulf series as well.
