Mike Cavallaro
Biography
Mike Cavallaro is an American comic book writer, artist, and cartoonist from New Jersey who has worked in comics and animation since the early 1990s. A graduate of The Kubert School, he is best known for his middle-grade graphic novels at First Second Books, including the Nico Bravo and Eowulf series, which he writes and illustrates, and the Eisner-nominated Parade (with Fireworks) (Image Comics, 2007). He has collaborated with Jane Yolen on the Foiled series, with J. M. DeMatteis on The Life and Times of Savior 28 and Impossible, Incorporated, with Adam Rapp on Decelerate Blue, and with Ian Rosenberg on the nonfiction graphic novel Free Speech Handbook. His comics credits span DC, Valiant, Archie, IDW, Boom!, and Marvel. In animation, he has worked as a designer, background painter, and storyboard artist for Cartoon Network, Warner Bros., and MTV Animation, including Codename: Kids Next Door and Mike Tyson Mysteries. He teaches at the School of Visual Arts in New York and is a member of the National Cartoonists Society. He also performed in punk bands in the New Jersey scene during the 1990s.
