Understanding Series, Titles, and Issues on VerseDB

VerseDB organizes comics into three levels: Titles, Series, and Issues. Understanding this hierarchy helps you find what you're looking for and use features like pull lists and collections effectively.

Titles#

A title is the franchise or brand name that spans multiple runs. Think of it as the umbrella that covers everything published under that name.

Example

"The Amazing Spider-Man" as a title includes every volume published since 1963, across multiple series with different numbering.

On a title page you'll find:

  • Description and publication history
  • All series (volumes) published under this title
  • Total issue count across every series
  • Characters and creators associated with the franchise

Series#

A series is a specific run or volume with its own numbering. When a publisher relaunches a comic with a new #1, that's a new series under the same title.

Example

"The Amazing Spider-Man (2018)" is a distinct series that started fresh with issue #1 in 2018.

On a series page you'll find:

  • Publisher, status, and publication dates
  • Complete issue list for that run
  • Writers, artists, and other creators
  • Characters appearing throughout the series
  • Option to add the series to your pull list

Pull lists work at the series level. When you add a series to your pull list, you'll be notified about every new issue in that run.

Issues#

An issue is a single comic book, whether physical or digital. This is the level where you track what you own and what you've read.

Example

"The Amazing Spider-Man (2018) #1" is one specific comic with its own cover, story, and release date.

On an issue page you'll find:

  • Cover image and any variant covers
  • Release date, page count, and price
  • Full credits (writer, artist, colorist, letterer, editor)
  • Characters appearing in this issue
  • Story arc connections
  • Options to add to collection, wishlist, or mark as read
  • User reviews and ratings

Note

For manga, manhwa, and other non-Western comics, VerseDB uses "Volume" instead of "Issue" to match how those formats are traditionally numbered.

How They Connect#

Level Example What It Represents
Title Batman The overall franchise
Series Batman (2016) A specific volume or run
Issue Batman (2016) #50 A single comic book

A title contains multiple series, and each series contains multiple issues. Some titles have dozens of series spanning decades of publication.

What You Can Do at Each Level#

  • Title: Follow to get updates when new series launch under that franchise
  • Series: Add to your pull list to track upcoming issues in that specific run
  • Issue: Add to collection, mark as read, leave reviews, or add to wishlists
