Sad Sack
CharacterDescription
Sad Sack is an unnamed, hapless army private experiencing the absurdities of military life, created by Sgt. George Baker and first appearing in the premiere issue of Yank, the Army Weekly in June 1942. Originally a pantomime comic strip, the character became a book collection and eventually a long-running Harvey Comics series. The character's name derives from a wartime military slang phrase and has become a common expression for a hopeless, ineffectual person.
