Marrina Smallwood is a member of the alien Plodex species whose egg landed on Earth and adapted to its aquatic environment. Raised by human parents in Canada, she later joined the superhero team Alpha Flight and became connected to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis.

Marrina possesses shapeshifting abilities linked to her alien heritage and has acted as both a warrior and a queen at different points in her Marvel history.
