Description

Karl Lykos is Sauron, an energy vampire who transforms into a humanoid pterodactyl form after draining the life force of mutants, first appearing in X-Men #59 in August 1969. Created by Roy Thomas and Neal Adams as a response to Comics Code restrictions on werewolves, he is a physician bitten by mutant pterodactyls as a child, leaving him dependent on draining the energy of others to survive. He has appeared as a recurring antagonist in X-Men titles and is closely associated with the Savage Land.
