Redeye
Description
Redeye is a comic strip character created by Gordon Bess. The strip debuted on September 11, 1967, syndicated by King Features Syndicate, and ran until July 13, 2008.
Redeye is the chief of the fictional Chickiepan Indian tribe, set in the 19th-century American West. The strip is a humor comic that portrays Native American life in a lighthearted, exaggerated style similar to how Hagar the Horrible treats Vikings. Redeye's tribe includes his wife Mawsquaw and a cast of eccentric tribal members.
Bess wrote and drew the strip from 1967 until 1988, when illness forced him to hand it off to writer Bill Yates and artist Mel Casson. The strip was especially popular in Europe, where it appeared in Tintin magazine from 1969 to 1990 and won the Best Foreign Comical Work Award at the Angouleme International Comics Festival in 1976.
