Fred Jones is the de facto leader of Mystery Inc., the teenage ghost-hunting group at the center of Hanna-Barbera's animated series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, which premiered on September 13, 1969. Recognized by his ascot and his enthusiasm for elaborate monster-catching traps that frequently go awry, he organizes the group's investigations and drives the Mystery Machine. He has appeared in Scooby-Doo comics published by Gold Key, Charlton, Marvel, and DC Comics.
