Akim, born Jim Rank, is the title character of an Italian adventure comics series created by writer Roberto Renzi and artist Augusto Pedrazza, first published in 1950. Orphaned as an infant when his father perished in a shipwreck, he was raised by gorillas on an uncharted island and became the ruler of its animals. The series ran until 1991 and drew frequent comparisons to Tarzan for its jungle adventure premise.
