Hal Jordan

Hal Jordan is a DC Comics superhero created by John Broome and Gil Kane. He first appeared in Showcase #22 (1959) as the Silver Age reinvention of the Green Lantern concept, replacing the Golden Age version Alan Scott.

A test pilot from Coast City, Hal was chosen by the dying alien Abin Sur to inherit a power ring and serve as the Green Lantern of Space Sector 2814. The ring, powered by willpower and limited only by the bearer's imagination, made him one of the most powerful heroes in the DC Universe. Hal was selected specifically for his ability to overcome great fear.

Hal is a founding member of the Justice League and the most prominent member of the Green Lantern Corps in DC's publishing history. His career has included periods as both hero and villain, most notably his fall as the fear entity Parallax during the Emerald Twilight storyline and his eventual redemption and return in Geoff Johns' Green Lantern: Rebirth (2004). He remains the character most closely associated with the Green Lantern name.
