Swamp Thing

Swamp Thing originally appeared to be biochemist Alec Holland transformed after he was killed in a swamp explosion caused by criminal sabotage. Alan Moore's landmark 1984 run revealed instead that Swamp Thing is a sentient plant elemental that absorbed Holland's memories and consciousness, not Holland himself. Connected to the mystical force called The Green, which links all plant life on Earth, he can manipulate vegetation, regenerate from any living plant matter, and travel vast distances through plant life. He is a central figure in DC's supernatural mythology.
