Jerry
Description
Jerry is one of the two title characters from the Tom and Jerry animated series, created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. He first appeared in the 1940 animated short Puss Gets the Boot.
Jerry is a small brown house mouse who consistently outsmarts his feline rival Tom through cleverness, agility, and quick thinking. Despite his size, he regularly gets the better of Tom in their endless game of cat and mouse. The character was originally unnamed, with animator John Carr winning a studio contest to name the duo Tom and Jerry.
In comics, Tom and Jerry began appearing in 1942 as part of Dell Comics' Our Gang Comics and have been published continuously in various formats since. The comic adaptations have been particularly popular in European markets including Norway, Germany, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
