Description
Batman: The Man Who Laughs is a prestige format one shot by writer Ed Brubaker and artist Doug Mahnke, published in 2005. Conceived as a follow up to Year One, it depicts Batman's first confrontation with the Joker early in his career. A string of killings leaves victims frozen in a ghastly grin as Batman races to understand the new criminal behind them.
The book modernizes the Joker's original 1940 debut for contemporary continuity. It is often paired with Year One as part of Batman's foundational early era.
