James Gordon
Description
James W. Gordon is a DC Comics character created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. He first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (1939), the same issue that introduced Batman, making him one of the oldest characters in the Batman mythos.
Gordon is the long-serving police commissioner of Gotham City and one of Batman's most trusted allies. An honest lawman in a deeply corrupt city, he maintains an uneasy but essential partnership with Batman, relying on the Bat-Signal to summon help when Gotham's criminal element overwhelms conventional policing.
His personal life is deeply intertwined with the Batman family. His daughter Barbara Gordon served as Batgirl and later Oracle. Gordon has been portrayed consistently as a man of unwavering moral principle, often placed under extreme pressure by villains seeking to break him. He has headlined solo stories exploring his early years on the Gotham police force and his struggles against systemic corruption within the department.
