John Stewart

John Stewart is a DC Comics superhero and Green Lantern, created by Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams. He first appeared in Green Lantern #87 (1971) as one of the first Black superheroes in mainstream American comics.

Originally an architect and U.S. Marine from Detroit, John was selected as Hal Jordan's backup Green Lantern by the Guardians of the Universe. He was chosen not despite his outspoken nature and willingness to challenge authority, but because of it. Unlike Hal's brash confidence, John approaches problems with a disciplined, analytical mindset shaped by his military and architectural background.

John has served as the primary Green Lantern of Sector 2814 during extended periods when Hal Jordan was unavailable. He became the most widely recognized Green Lantern for a generation of fans through the Justice League animated series (2001-2006). He is a long-standing member of the Justice League and the Green Lantern Corps, and has led the Corps during several major conflicts.
