Description
Boy Comics was a Golden Age anthology series from Lev Gleason Publications, running from 1942 to 1956 across more than 100 issues, continuing from Captain Battle Jr. The book's central and most popular feature was Crimebuster, the alter ego of Chuck Chandler, a young man who adopts a hockey uniform as a makeshift costume and dedicates himself to fighting crime after his parents are murdered by Iron Jaw, the recurring villain. Crimebuster became one of the most popular costumed heroes outside of the major publishers during the Golden Age, and his ongoing battle with Iron Jaw gave the book a serial through-line across dozens of issues. The anthology format placed Crimebuster alongside a rotating cast of supporting strips covering superheroes, jungle adventure, science fiction, and comedy. A later space-opera strip, Rocky X vs. The Claw, was among the more distinctive features of the book's later years. The series evolved alongside its era, shifting in tone as superhero popularity waned and crime and adventure genres took over the broader market in the late 1940s and early 1950s, while Crimebuster remained the anchor throughout.
