Killer Croc
Description
Killer Croc is a DC Comics supervillain created by Gerry Conway and Gene Colan. He first appeared in Detective Comics #523 (1983) as one of Batman's most physically imposing adversaries.
Waylon Jones was born with a rare genetic condition that gives him reptilian skin, superhuman strength, and enhanced senses. Abused and mocked throughout his childhood for his appearance, he eventually turned to crime, working his way up from carnival sideshow wrestler to Gotham's criminal underworld.
Killer Croc's condition has been depicted with varying severity across different eras. Early appearances showed him as a large man with scaly skin and sharp teeth. Later portrayals have made him increasingly animalistic, sometimes depicting him as nearly fully reptilian with a tail and snout, his intelligence degrading as his mutation progresses. He is a formidable physical threat capable of going toe-to-toe with Batman in close combat.
Despite his violent tendencies, some stories have portrayed Croc sympathetically, emphasizing the rejection and cruelty he suffered because of his appearance. He has occasionally shown protective instincts toward outcasts and children who remind him of his own isolation.
