Biography
Jeremy Whitley is an American comic book writer and publisher best known for creating the Glyph Award-winning, Eisner-nominated series Princeless. Born in La Mesa, California, he grew up in Livermore, California and Lenoir, North Carolina, and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a degree in English and a Creative Writing minor.
In 2011, Whitley created Princeless, about a young Black princess who defies fairy-tale conventions. He created it for his daughter, wanting a Black heroine she could see herself in. It won three Glyph Comics Awards in 2012 and earned two Eisner nominations. The series spawned the spinoff Raven the Pirate Princess.
Whitley wrote extensively for IDW's My Little Pony lines and, from 2016 to 2019, Marvel's The Unstoppable Wasp, praised for its portrayal of bipolar disorder. His other Marvel credits include Future Foundation, Love Unlimited: Gwenpool, and Strange Tales. He has also written Vampirella and Rainbow Brite for Dynamite, Sea of Thieves for Titan, and graphic novels School for Extraterrestrial Girls, The Dog Knight, The Cold Ever After, and Navigating with You. He co-hosts the Progressively Horrified podcast and lives in Durham, North Carolina.
