The Dog Knight (2023)

The Dog Knight is a middle grade graphic novel written by Jeremy Whitley with art by Bre Indigo and Melissa Capriglione. Frankie, a nonbinary middle schooler and drummer, steps in to save a golden retriever from bullies and is whisked into a giant magical doghouse to meet the Pawtheon, a council of the wisest dogs in the universe. They have chosen Frankie to become the Dog Knight, defender of humans and animals, but only if Frankie can prove the six dog virtues of loyalty, kindness, honesty, justice, stubbornness and smell. Guided by a loyal pup named Platinum, Frankie faces a series of trials, all while hiding the talking dogs from a fur allergic parent. It launched a continuing series for younger readers.
