Description

Peter Parker's ordinary life as a journalist and family man is upended when Tony Stark sends him a holographic message revealing that his destiny as Spider-Man was stolen by the villainous Maker. At a memorial service, Peter reflects on loss and sacrifice alongside his uncle Ben and boss J. Jonah Jameson, who quit the Daily Bugle rather than compromise their integrity under Wilson Fisk's ownership. Encouraged by conversations with his family and Ben's advice about not living an incomplete life, Peter makes a fateful decision. He allows a radioactive spider to bite him, finally claiming the superhero identity that was always meant to be his. This pivotal issue launches Peter's journey as Spider-Man at age 35, already married to MJ and father to May and Richard.

This is exactly what I've been wanting from a Spider-Man book. A grown-up Peter with a family, only to find out the Maker stole his destiny? Such a great hook. Hickman takes his time with the character work and it pays off big time by the end. Checchetto's art is gorgeous too. Can't wait to see where this goes.

Hickman gets Peter Parker. Full stop. The pivot in this book — older, married, with a kid — and the rebuilt status quo is the boldest Spider-Man swing in years. Marco Checchetto's art is breathtaking.
