The Wake

On the day called the Wake, every animal on Earth gained consciousness and speech. The change hits New York City with immediate violence as humans and animals collide over territory, survival, and centuries of unresolved history.

A bloodhound named Sandor wakes beside Jesse, the young girl he considers his daughter, and makes a decision: she needs to get out of the city. With Jesse's half-brother Adam living somewhere in San Francisco, the two begin the first steps of a cross-country journey through a country that no longer resembles anything either of them has known.
