Animosity (2016)
SeriesDescription
On the day called the Wake, every animal on Earth gained consciousness and the ability to speak. The change was instantaneous and absolute, and its consequences for human civilization were catastrophic.
In New York City, a bloodhound named Sandor wakes alongside Jesse, the eleven-year-old girl he has always thought of as his daughter. With the city fracturing around them, Sandor commits to getting Jesse out alive and to her half-brother Adam, who lives in San Francisco. The two begin a cross-country journey through a country that neither of them recognizes anymore.
Written by Marguerite Bennett with art primarily by Rafael de Latorre, Animosity ran for 28 issues at AfterShock Comics between 2016 and 2020. The series spans several distinct arcs as Jesse and Sandor navigate post-Wake America: warlord territories, organized insect swarms, human supremacist enclaves, and animals still working out what freedom means for creatures shaped entirely by captivity.
