John Semper, Jr.
Biography
John Semper Jr. is an American screenwriter, producer, and comic book writer. He graduated from Roxbury Latin School in 1970 and earned a bachelor's degree in Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard University in 1975.
Semper is best known as the producer and head writer of Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994-1998), where he developed the "Spider-Verse" multiverse concept that was later adapted across comics, television, and film. His career in animation spans over 40 years, including work for Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros. Animation, and Hanna-Barbera, with projects developed for Jim Henson, George Lucas, and Stan Lee.
In 2016, Semper began writing the Cyborg ongoing series for DC Comics as part of the Rebirth initiative, illustrated by Brian Stelfreeze. He wrote a 19-issue run on the title. He received a career achievement award at San Diego Comic-Con in 2023.
