Héctor Germán Oesterheld (1919 to 1977) was an Argentine comic book writer. He created El Eternauta, a science fiction serial that became one of the most important works in Argentine comics, first published in 1957 with artist Francisco Solano López.
His writing blended science fiction with political themes reflecting Argentina's sociopolitical climate. He collaborated with artists including Alberto Breccia on works like Mort Cinder.
Oesterheld was abducted during Argentina's Dirty War in 1977 and remains among the disappeared.
