Nick Cardy
Biography
Nick Cardy (1920-2013), born Nicholas Viscardi in New York City, was an American comic book artist. He studied life drawing at the Art Students League of New York and entered comics in 1939 working for the Eisner & Iger studio on titles for Fiction House. During World War II, he served as a tank driver with the 3rd Armored Division and earned two Purple Hearts.
After the war, Cardy joined DC Comics and became one of their most important artists over the next 26 years. He drew the first 39 issues of Aquaman (1962-1968) and all its covers through the final issue. From 1966 to 1973, he pencilled or inked all 43 issues of Teen Titans, defining the visual identity of DC's young heroes. He also drew the fondly remembered Western series Bat Lash (1968-69), about a dandy gunslinger who wore a flower in his hat.
Cardy was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2005.
