Iron Man is the armored Avenger, created by writer Stan Lee, developed by scripter Larry Lieber, and designed by artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby. First appearing in 1963, Iron Man is the alter ego of Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who builds a powered suit of armor to escape captivity and later uses it to protect the world.
