Keith Giffen
Biography
Keith Giffen (1952-2023) was an American comic book artist and writer born in Queens, New York City. His first published work appeared in Marvel Preview #4 (1976) with writer Bill Mantlo, and together they co-created Rocket Raccoon in Marvel Preview #7 that same year.
Giffen is best known for his long association with DC Comics' Legion of Super-Heroes, which he illustrated and later wrote. His collaboration with writer Paul Levitz produced "The Great Darkness Saga" (1982), one of the most celebrated Legion storylines. With J.M. DeMatteis and Kevin Maguire, he reinvented the Justice League in the late 1980s as the humor-driven Justice League International, a run that became a fan favorite for its comedic character dynamics. He co-created the characters Lobo and the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle.
Giffen's other credits include Ambush Bug, The Heckler, and work on numerous DC events. He received an Inkpot Award in 1991.
