Richard Starkings
Biography
Richard Starkings is a British comic book letterer, font designer, and writer born in Yorkshire, England. He began his career lettering strips for 2000 AD and Warrior before joining Marvel UK, where he lettered titles like Zoids and Transformers and later became an editor.
In 1992 Starkings founded Comicraft, a lettering and design studio that became one of the first to specialize in digital comic book lettering. The studio has provided lettering for titles across every major American comics publisher, and its font library is widely used throughout the industry. His pioneering work in computer-based lettering helped establish the digital standard that replaced hand-lettering in mainstream comics.
Beyond lettering, Starkings created the science fiction series Hip Flask and its prequel, Elephantmen, published by Image Comics beginning in 2006. Elephantmen ran for over 80 issues with art by Axel Medellin and other collaborators.
