The Amazing Spider-Man (1963)
SeriesDescription
The flagship Spider-Man title and one of the longest-running superhero comics in history. Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the series launched in March 1963 and ran continuously for 441 issues until November 1998.
This original volume introduced nearly every major character in Spider-Man's world: the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, the Lizard, Sandman, Electro, Mysterio, Kraven the Hunter, the Vulture, Venom, Carnage, and the Kingpin. It chronicled Peter Parker's journey from high schooler to college student to married adult, including his romances with Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson.
Major runs include Lee and Ditko's first 38 issues, John Romita Sr.'s work through the 1970s, and the Clone Saga of the mid-1990s. The series ended with issue #441 before relaunching as Volume 2 in 1999.
