John Byrne
Biography
John Byrne is a British-born American comic book artist and writer, born July 6, 1950, in Walsall, England. He moved to Canada at age eight and attended the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary. He entered comics in the early 1970s and became one of the most influential creators in the medium.
At Marvel, Byrne's collaboration with Chris Claremont on Uncanny X-Men produced landmark storylines including "The Dark Phoenix Saga" and "Days of Future Past," and introduced characters such as Kitty Pryde, Emma Frost, and Sabretooth. His solo run on Fantastic Four (#232-293) is considered a second golden age for that title. He then moved to DC, where his 1986 limited series The Man of Steel relaunched and redefined Superman's origin for a new era, featuring comics' first variant cover. Byrne also co-created Alpha Flight and produced creator-owned work including Next Men at Dark Horse Comics' Legend imprint.
