Guy Gardner
Description
Guy Gardner is a DC Comics superhero and Green Lantern created by John Broome and Gil Kane. He first appeared in Green Lantern #59 (1968) as an alternate candidate for Abin Sur's ring who was passed over in favor of Hal Jordan solely because Hal was geographically closer at the time.
A former special education teacher and football player from Baltimore, Guy is defined by his abrasive personality, hair-trigger temper, and unwavering self-confidence. He was originally portrayed as a mild-mannered backup Lantern but was reimagined in the 1980s as a loud, confrontational hothead after suffering brain damage from an exploding power battery.
Guy has served as a member of the Green Lantern Corps, the Justice League International (where his clashes with teammates were a source of constant comedy), and briefly wielded a yellow Sinestro Corps ring and the alien weapon known as Vuldarian DNA. His brash demeanor masks genuine courage and loyalty. He operates the Warriors bar in his civilian life and remains one of Earth's most prominent Green Lanterns alongside Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Kyle Rayner.
